What is authentic assessment?

  1. In the present time, the assessment of a child can´t be taken only as the results of a written test but as the combination of a group of situations that happen every day, both inside the classroom and outside it. The real assessment becomes the perfect tool for parents and practitioners in order to obtain a realistic view of how their children are developing because it allows them to work together by providing information about each child as a unit and as a group. When the assessments are taken under consideration we can plan a curriculum that fully benefit the child's learning introducing and reusing activities where they can identify themselves as part of that environment. And the chain continues, when we project that planning we can recognize how certain elements influences another because we show them the way, we as teachers gave them the guide through those activities and interactions so they can demonstrate to us what is going on in their minds. Here comes the importance of observing them all the time. The real assessment gives us (teachers) strategies to generate the best learning atmosphere and for the parents it provides them the opportunity to know how to work/act with their child at home. It is considered as the perfect instrument because it combines different sources showing a complete, valuable and useful result of a child. We can celebrate their achievements together.
